Friends and Fun

The Wieser's came over for a BBQ tonight and we couldn't help but take advantage of the decent weather so we headed outside to ride bikes and just hang out!

Two Wheelin'

Yep, that's right, my little 4-year old Zane is a two-wheelin' big kid now!!!  We are SO proud of him!!  I might add, he never has had a bike with training wheels - he's a natural :)

Me too buddy, me too

Tonight on the way home from the store, out of nowhere Zane said something to me that he's never said before, yet I always knew I'd hear one day - "I wish I didn't have diabetes".  My heart sank.  I just replied with "me too buddy, me too".  I then tried to probe a little and ask why he didn't like having it (as if it was something that some people actually did like having) and he simply said "I don't like checking my blood sugar and stuff".  I explained to him that having diabetes was not because of something he did wrong or because of something mommy and daddy did wrong.  I explained to him that we are handed things in life that we don't like and we have to deal with them and try to look at the bright sides of them.  I explained that there are kids out there that have things going on in their health and life that are worse than having diabetes and we talked about a few of those things.  I explained that mommy and daddy didn't like him having diabetes either, but it was out of our control and we had to the do everything we could to make sure that he stayed healthy.  I told him he was so brave and that we were so proud of him and how helpful and compliant he was when he needed his blood sugar checked or needed his shots.  I then told him that diabetes would not stop him from anything in life - he could do and be anything he wanted and all he had to do was make sure he was always good about checking his blood sugars, counting carbs (when he's old enough) and taking his insulin and if he made sure of all of those things, nothing else would stop him.   I then reminded him that he was not the only kid or person out there with diabetes and that he should never feel alone.  Once we got home, the conversation was more than over, but of course it was still on my mind.  We checked his blood sugar and he was a little low, I handed him a few sweet tarts and up the stairs he headed for bath.  I stopped him on his way up and said "want to know what the bright side about having diabetes right now is?" he said "yeah" and I said "I bet there aren't many other kids having candy right now on their way to bath", he laughed and said "yeah, that's fun"!

Steel Lake

Zane really wanted to go to Steel Lake yesterday to play on their play structure but we just didn't have enough time.  I told him that we'd go there right after work tonight since it was supposed to be nice again, he was fine with that!  As promised, we headed there right after I picked him up tonight and instead of playing on the play structure he was all about playing in the sand!  There were kids actually swimming in the lake tonight - that's the PNW for ya...as soon as the thermometer hits 70 people think its full on summer.  That lake water was FREEZING, no thanks!  Next time we decide to do a trip to the lake after work I think we'll make a pit stop at home first so I can change out of my work clothes, nothing like trekking through the sand in high heel boots and sitting in the sand in my work pants...oh the things we will do for our kids :)

Holy Sunshine!

This weekend was absolutely perfect as far as weather was concerned!  We could not have asked for a better Saturday and Sunday!  Although, yesterday was jam packed with activities all day, today was much more low key - but we still managed to have a great time!  Unfortunately, Josh was stuck in the garage all.freaking.day working on a friends car, but the boys and I took full advantage of this awesome spring weather!  Its amazing how great of a mood everyone is in when the sun is shining!

After playing out back for awhile the boys and I headed over to my mom's for a BBQ while Josh finished up on the car.  Both of my brothers and my grandma were also there for the delicious dinner, so it was fun to catch up and the boys LOVE hanging out with their uncles!  Charlie always has something cool for Zane to play with and this time was no different!

After we got back home, Josh was finally done with the car and we headed out for ice cream and more play time outside!  I was too busy stuffing my face and playing so no pictures were taken, but I wanted everyone to know that Josh did actually get some time outside today as well!

Tate is Eight (haha, I made a rhyme)!

Our good friend Tate is turning eight tomorrow - but lucky us, his party was yesterday!  After the expo, we left Landon at home to nap with daddy and Zane and I headed out to Tate's Nerf party!  Zane was the youngest one there, but he held his own pretty good playing with the big boys and his good friend Kennedi (she's 5).  Happy Birthday Tate, can't believe you are 8 years old!!!

Diabetes Expo

The American Diabetes Association hosts a large Diabetes Expo at the Convention Center each year.  We missed it last year, but made sure to stop by this year to check it out.  There were a lot of vendors there to check out - some that we cared about, but many we didn't!  I will say I'm very excited for the new One Touch meter - I'm hoping to pick one up tomorrow and start using it as soon as our strips for the old one are gone!  Ahh, the little things in life that excite me now!  Anyway, Zane had a blast at the Washington Youth Soccer booth that was set up, he begged us not to leave and begged us to go back to it before we left (so we did).  The folks that were running the booth seemed pretty impressed with our little man - of course we always are!
