Fail

I have a good friend named Cori - Cori is a wonderful cake decorator.  She doesn't do the big fancy ones, but the simple ones she does look fabulous - I'm always in awe of her work.  She tells me over and over that this or that technique is super easy and I could totally do it.  She will send me tutorials, give me step by step directions, guides me to You Tube videos etc - I then gain some confidence and think "yes, I could do this or that".  Wrong.  I suck.  I am not sure why I even try, I think because I so desperately want to be good at it.  I am not giving up yet.

Cori made this amazing cake for her sister-in-law's baby shower last weekend:

Isn't she beautiful??  Cori again told me that this was super easy and I could totally do it!  As she explained how to do it and after watching the You Tube videos, I agreed...it did look super easy. Easier said than done that is.

Here's my attempt:

Good Lord that thing is ugly!  I was making it for work to thank a few folks who have really helped me out the last few days with some work stuff.  Since I had to carry it in my carrier, I did not go 4 layers like she did - I wish that was the only reason it looked like shi* - but I know it's not!  Since I work with some amazing people - they can see past the uglines of this cake and see that the thought is what really does count and have been very nice about my piece of art junk.

I hear it tastes really good - I guess I have that going for me:

I'm not done with this yet - I plan on attemping this again for Josh & Zane's little family birthday party at the end of October - hopefully family will be as kind as my co-workers assuming it looks just as bad then too!

I'd like to blame this on a Pinterest Fail...but sadly, I can't blame a bad Pinterest link!

Melissa & Jake

My cousin Melissa got married this past Saturday in a beautiful outdoor wedding in Snohomish!  She couldn't have asked for better weather!  Everything was beautiful.  The best part about the wedding to me was that it was the first time in over 12 years that all 6 of us Hay cousin's were together at the same place/time!  My two half-sister's flew up from California to seal the deal of us all being together - it was awesome!  It was a short trip for them, but well worth it!

I love jeans & t-shirts, but you may not know that I love, love, love to dress up!  I rarely do, but when I do - I always wish that I had more of an opportunity to do it!  Josh had to work Saturday, so my two boys were my dates and it was awesome (although, I would've loved my hubs to be there too)!

They got married at the French Creek Estates in Snohomish and it was beautiful.  Like I said before the weather was perfect.  I love weddings!

After the wedding, there was a cocktail hour outside - seriously the best hor dourves I've ever had at a wedding...ramekins full of baked mac & cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches and mini twice baked potatoes...talk about a carb overload.  I won't even go into how lovely Zane's blood sugar was that night :)  During the cocktail hour we also took it upon ourselves to take an obscene amount of photos since we never get to see each other!

The 6 Hay Girls

My dad and all 3 of his daughters - this never happens!

SEEESTERS!

We then headed inside for a delicious dinner, cupcakes and even a candy bar!  There was plenty of dancing, talking and laughing!  It was an awesome evening!

He couldn't wait to get his hands on a cupcake!

Landon and his favorite person Abbie!

What a great night!

Walking Home

As of last week, Zane has started to walk home after school 2 days a week!  He meets up with two of the neighbor girls that live up the street from us and they walk home together.  Since he's the "farthest" from the school, he's the last to get home, which means he gets to walk "by himself" for a few feet!  That doesn't sound like much, but to a 6 year old, it is like winning the lottery!

The first day - Landon and I waited outside for him (basically so I could snap a few pictures)...but now he'll let himself in with his very own key.  No worries, he isn't coming home to an empty house at 6 - Landon and I will be patiently waiting inside!

He's growing up folks!

Here he comes!

Remlinger Farm

We have been wanting to check out Remlinger Farm for a very long time and thanks to Groupon for having a great deal recently we had no excuse but to go check it out!  We really lucked out with the weather today too!  I'd hardly call this place a farm as there is one small barn with a few animals...otherwise it's just full of fun rides for the kids!  I'm not complaining though!

He LOVED his first roller coaster!

Do the Puyallup

Apparently the state is doing a big push to have folks no longer call the Puyallup Fair the Puyallup Fair, but to call it the "Washington State Fair"...not gonna happen Washington, not gonna happen - sorry, but nice try!

My good friend Karena and I decided to get the boys together today and thought going to the Puyallup Fair would be the fun thing to do - we were right.  We weren't counting on it being almost 90 degrees when we made these plans a few weeks ago, but I'm not really complaining...just kind of. It was so flippin' hot today - there is very little shade and the sun beating off of the pavement was almost enough to make me cry!  I love the heat, don't get me wrong, but this was just torture today! All of the kids did great - it was just us mom's complaining, but boy did we go through a lot of water!

The kids enjoyed the heck out of rides, food and fun today!  Both Luke and Zane got Dizzy Passes, so they had unlimited rides - I just bought Landon $20 worth of tickets and thankfully that turned out to be just enough!  He isn't as excited about rides as Zane is - but he does like to go on them, but is usually done with them a lot quicker.  Zane will go on any ride that he's tall enough for and will go on it 100 times if he can - he's like his mama!

Waiting in line to drive the cars - his favorite ride of course!

He rode this twice.  They didn't accept single riders, so thankfully he turned on the charm to this girl!

Such a good big brother taking Landon on the train ride AGAIN - he loved it!

Another good friend Jen lives very close to the fairgrounds so to save a few bucks, I parked at her place and the boys and I walked down her huge hill to the fair...I knew walking back up that thing in 90 degrees wasn't going to be fun - but it would be worth it to save the dough for rides instead!  But thankfully Karena took pitty on us and drove us back to Jen's to my car :)  Obviously the boys didn't have their booster seats, so they thought there were tough stuff sitting in the back seat just buckled in! It was a short ride, no one call CPS on us :)

Zip-line

Zane tried his hands at zip-lining today and you may have guessed it - he loved it!

Karate

Thanks to Groupon my boys are both trying out Karate for a month - today was their first day.  They LOVED it.  Apparently about once a quarter they get to try to break boards - lucky for us, today was the day; both boys tried and both boys were successful!!  I think pretty much all of the kids in Zane's class were able to do it, but not everyone in Landon's class was - so it was pretty special that he was able too!  They already can't wait to go back next week!

The look on her face cracks me up!
