Turkey Trot and Barf

This past Saturday was the annual Turkey Trot hosted by the elementary schools in the Snoqualmie Valley.  Last year was our first year participating and both kids did the 1k.  This year, Zane decided he was too good for just doing the 1k and asked to also do the 5k.  I told him that I wouldn't be able to do it with him as I'd need to watch Landon, but he didn't care (who needs mom anyway)!  He didn't know anyone else running it (but ended up meeting up with some buds a mile into the run) - that didn't stop him, nothing did!  He was all over it!  He did decide that next year, he'd opt out of the 1k though as he thinks he exhausted too much energy during that!  His 5k time was around 35 mins - not bad especially since he was goofing off 1/2 way through it with his friends!  I love his passion!

Did I mention it was pouring down rain the entire morning?!!

First off was the 1k...

Time for the 5k...

And he's off...
Finishing with his friend J.D.

Ben, J.D. and Zane

At 9:00 am while Landon was running the 1k - I never would've said that 5 hours later he'd have the stomach flu...

We were headed to a birthday party in Kent when he started giving me the signs that he wasn't feeling well.  I know this kid all to well and he gives very tell tale signs when he is getting sick and especially sick with the stomach flu.  We stopped at the party and I left the kids in the car while I ran in the gift real fast and then quickly headed back home...I was praying that he would not barf in the car; thankfully he didn't.

I got him set up on the couch with all of the necessities...a towel to lay on and a bowl close by.  He missed; ugh.  When he was done, he said "I didn't even know that was coming", poor buddy!

He ended up falling asleep in this position...I put him to bed about 6:30 p.m.

To be continued...

Mud Run

The day after my dad died, Zane was signed up to participate in a Mud Run - it was just the distraction that I needed!  Zane had a blast!  There are a lot of photos here...but I couldn't pick a favorite, so you get to see most of them!

At the last minute a friend of mine signed her daughter up - that was perfect!  The two of them ran the course while we tried to keep up.  Kids under 9, had to have a parent on the course with them. Thankfully neither of our kids needed help with anything, so we were able to stay mud-free for the most part...but we didn't know we were getting a 2 mile run in that day!  That's ok - it was good for us!

Rinsing off in Lake Sammamish after!

Soggy 5K

Today was the much anticipated St. Patty's Day fun run!  The boys participated in the kids 1k last year and loved it.  This year we stepped it up a notch!  Zane and Landon rand the 1k again, but then Zane and I ran the 5k right after.  Which - if you're following, means, Zane ran 6K today!

The weather was anything but ideal this morning.  Pouring down rain, windy and flippin' cold!  I was not looking forward to this - but sucked it up and out we went!

Zane rocked both of his runs.  He was 5 overall in the 1k and took 3rd place in his age group for the 5k!  If he really puts his mind and energy towards this, he could really work down his mile-time and really do some serious running!  Not sure if that's the direction he wants to go or not, but I'm happy to support him if it is!

A hot shower has never felt so good!

Night Run

Zane and I headed out for a night run tonight. It was a little rainy, very dark...but pretty fun. We saw two deer and I tried to get a picture...but I think there was water on my phone lens so it didn't turn out. But trust me, they were there and they were adorable! Zane said he's never been so close to one before and couldn't stop talking about it.

We were slated to go two miles, but instead I had Mom Fail #456. Landon was throwing a fit that he couldn't go, so in my haste of trying to get us out of the house as quickly as possible I forgot to a. have Zane check his blood sugar and b. forgot to bring anything with us in case he felt/went low. Whoops.

.82 of a mile into our run his CGM goes off saying "Falling" which means he's dropping quick. And he was dropping from an already pretty low number. Crap. We turn around to head back home, but still have .82 of a mile to get back there, I felt like such an idiot. I was prepared to flag down a car to ask if they had any soda or candy in their car, but he said he felt fine, so we continued trekking it back home. The two deer hadn't moved, haha.

He survived, he was pretty low, but fine and I learned a huge lesson and won't make that mistake again. And he isn't too scarred because he wants to go again tomorrow (but requested it be light out, haha)!

Love that he's motivating me to get off my butt and move!!  He doesn't let Diabetes stop him, so I surely can't let my laziness stop me.

Runners

This kid LOVES to run. And I swear he's the Energizer Bunny when he does run. For his school's WALK-a-thon this year, he RAN 4 miles...the farthest of all 1st graders. And all that while stopping for blood sugar tests and pounding juice boxes. He amazes me. He's been asking to run a 5k with me for over a year. I told him we'd do the St. Patty's one in March that they have right by the house. Well, it's almost February and I haven't ran since probably August; whoops. Time to get myself back out there to re-learn how to do this!

Since the weather was GORGEOUS today and Josh was off work to watch the L man...I decided there was no time like the present to start our training!  We decided to start with a mile...he could've probably did all 3 today, but trust me a mile was more than enough for me today!

So glad he loves this...I'm hoping he motivates me to keep going! March 14 isn't too far away!
