Happy Pump-Aversary Zane

One year ago today Zane transitioned from MDI (mulitple daily injections) to Omnipod (insulin pump).  At times this has felt like the longest year of my life - but its been such a relief for Zane so its worth the "long days/nights" for me!  He can eat whenever he wants instead of having to be on a more regimented eating schedule; he has been able to take more control over his diabetes - he actually has started bolusing himself for meals (not something most 5 year olds with T1 are doing) and he isn't getting poked over and over with shots everyday!  He's had a handful of injections since starting the pump due to some stubborn highs that the pump needed some help with - but all in all he's pretty much given the finger to the needle!

In the last year his pump has replaced an average of 1,825 injections - he has had approximately 121 pump changes (give or take a few).  He has gone from on average 5 injections a day to 1 poke every 3 days (for each pump change).  He still checks his blood sugar 8-15 times a day, so not all pokes have disappeared, but we are happy with the ones who have!

Happy Pump-Aversary Zane; mommy and daddy are so proud of you buddy!  You are our true super hero!
