Sick of being sick...

Enough was enough - I took Zane into Urgent Care on Sunday to figure out what the heck-ola was wrong with him.  By the way...I have no idea why they call it urgent care, when it is anything but urgent!

Diagnosis - Pneumonia - just as I had suspected (sometimes mommy's are right)!

President's Day in the snow

We headed back up to Snoqualmie this past Monday to play in the snow - Zane had a blast - that kid has no fear when it comes to any athletic type things.  Landon wasn't as thrilled about being in the snow - but turns out he was getting sick and we didn't know it (until he vomited that night - fun) and he now has an ear infection - tis the season!!  Regardless we had a great time up there playing and hope to make up again before winter is over.

Ice Skating

My brother invited Zane to go ice skating last Sunday and of course Zane was more than excited about that offer.  I was hesitant due to it being right in the middle of Landon's nap time and he is pretty insistant on not car napping anymore - but we went.  Landon cried (due to being so tired) for about 45 mins of our 60-75 mins there - that was fun!  Oh well, Zane had a great time.  He fell quite a bit more this time than the last couple of times, but my brother said the ice was in pretty bad shape, so we'll blame it on that!  For the most part, he just got up and kept on cruising!

Valentine's Day Festivities

 Zane doesn't normally go to daycare/preschool on Thursdays.  Thankfully he was able to switch his day off this week to Tuesday so he could go in and partake in the Valentine's Day party.  He filled out all of his Valentine's last night and I was very impressed by how quickly he got through them.  I remember last year we had to break it up into two nights because it was just too much for him to write all of the names of his classmates in one night.

I was really amazed when he brought his loot home tonight that he was the ONLY kid who wrote the to and from on all of his Valentine's - every other kid's parents did it for them.  I found that odd to be honest, but whatever floats their boats!  I love his little handwriting!!

I had a lot of fun making Zane's Valentine themed lunch last night - he was very pleased with it.  His teacher even commented on his report for the day on how cute his lunch was - 2 points for mommy!

We hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day/Night!!  Obviously we tell each other we love each other EVERY DAY, we don't need a Hallmark holiday to tell us to do it - but it doesn't mean we can't have fun celebrating a little pink/red and hearts for a day!!

"Weeeeeeee"

Landon's "word" for slide is "weeeeee".  Yesterday he stood at the window pointing to the play structure going "weeee??", "weeee??".  Thankfully it wasn't raining or soaking wet outside, so we headed out to play for a bit!  He is quite the champ at climbing the ladder and going down the slide all by himself.

Zane is getting so close to learning how to "pump" himself on the swings - what a relief that will be; because running back and forth between two swings at opposite ends of the play structure is a bit more than I'm cut out for!

This next picture cracks me up...the boys were walking around the playground on the railroad ties and pretending they were balance beams.  I thought it was cute how they looked from behind following each other around so decided to snap a quick picture.  Just as I snapped it...Landon fell off backwards - he is totally fine - as per the usual, just got up, brushed himself off and jumped right back on - but the picture is quite hilarious!

Meet Jack Ryan

My great friend Jen had her first baby boy yesterday and I couldn't be more happy and excited for her and Ryan.  There is nothing like your first baby and seeing Jack yesterday brought me back to when I first saw Zane - its just such a surreal feeling and one I am so happy Jen and Ryan are able to experience.

New Pump Sites

We try to give Zane as much control and say over anything we can with his Diabetes - we know he has such little control over it, so the things we can give him control of we do (with perameters of course).  When we check his blood sugar (if he isn't checking himself) - we let him chose which finger, but there is never a choice in whether his blood sugar is checked or not (see the perameter?!).  

When it comes to pump site changes we also give him a choice as to where he wants it.  He is very favorable to his arms - he actually only wants it on his arms.  His arms work great, we rarely have issues with them coming off to early on his arms, his number stay in pretty good range on his arms...but his arms are starting to gather a lot of scare tissue.  The scare tissue gets in the way of his insulin absorbtion and his numbers become not as nice anymore.  He will allow us to put it on his back ("love handle" area), but we have been having a lot of issues lately with it coming off too early.  He rough houses and it sometimes gets torn off or sometimes he bumps it too hard while pulling his pants up and down and will trigger it to "alarm" and we have to change it early.  I personally do not like it on his back because of these issues.  BUT those are the only two places he has let us put it (arms and back).  I do rotate them around as much as possible (between arms/back), but still its not enough time away from the arms for that scare tissue to start to disappear.  Last week when he tore it off his back (not on a pump change day) - I begged nicely pleaded with him to let us try it on his leg or tummy.  He said absolutely not to his tummy, but was rather receptive to his leg.  Not sure what changed because he has never been receptive to that before...but whatever it is, I'll take it.  We were so proud of him!  We took him out for a prize that night and he chose the Grave Digger Monster Truck :)  

This leg pump site lasted the full 3 days - yay!!!

When it came time to change his pump Monday night - he agreed to his other leg, so that was great!!  Then Tuesday morning he was rough housing and bumped it too hard and it "alarmed" and a pump change had to happen already, ugh!!  What a waste of money for the pump and the lost insulin - I HATE having to do them early!  Oh well, life happens.  He was home with Josh's parents at our house when this happened...but thankfully Josh was home sleeping (becuase he was sick), so they were able to wake him up to do the pump change opposed to me driving home or them coming out to my work.  

Josh has a gentle way of talking Zane into things that I just am not able to do - he is way more patient than I am and much more gentle in his persuasion (I should take notes)!  Anyway, I received a text from Josh's mom shortly after the pump and it was a picture of this...

Yep, Zane allowed a pod to be put on his tummy!!!!  I am so proud of him (as he was of himself too as you can see)!!!  And of Josh for his great persuasion skills!!  And yes, you guessed it...he got another prize for being so brave with a new spot...a Lego!

This kid amazes me more and more everyday - I just love him to death!!
