Fail

I have a good friend named Cori - Cori is a wonderful cake decorator.  She doesn't do the big fancy ones, but the simple ones she does look fabulous - I'm always in awe of her work.  She tells me over and over that this or that technique is super easy and I could totally do it.  She will send me tutorials, give me step by step directions, guides me to You Tube videos etc - I then gain some confidence and think "yes, I could do this or that".  Wrong.  I suck.  I am not sure why I even try, I think because I so desperately want to be good at it.  I am not giving up yet.

Cori made this amazing cake for her sister-in-law's baby shower last weekend:

Isn't she beautiful??  Cori again told me that this was super easy and I could totally do it!  As she explained how to do it and after watching the You Tube videos, I agreed...it did look super easy. Easier said than done that is.

Here's my attempt:

Good Lord that thing is ugly!  I was making it for work to thank a few folks who have really helped me out the last few days with some work stuff.  Since I had to carry it in my carrier, I did not go 4 layers like she did - I wish that was the only reason it looked like shi* - but I know it's not!  Since I work with some amazing people - they can see past the uglines of this cake and see that the thought is what really does count and have been very nice about my piece of art junk.

I hear it tastes really good - I guess I have that going for me:

I'm not done with this yet - I plan on attemping this again for Josh & Zane's little family birthday party at the end of October - hopefully family will be as kind as my co-workers assuming it looks just as bad then too!

I'd like to blame this on a Pinterest Fail...but sadly, I can't blame a bad Pinterest link!

Dark Hole Meet Key

I took my car to Honda to get an oil change yesterday and they never want my big bulky key chain - they just want the one key for the car.  I picked up my car right as I was heading to pick up the boys, so never put it back onto my big key chain.  Got home, set them down on Landon's blanket while I was getting him out - then picked up the blanket to give it to him and cling, clang, clunk my keys fell right down the drain that my car was parked next too.

Whoops.

The boys thought it was cool.  I did not.

Thankfully Josh was already up when I got home, so he could fish it out for me...by fish it out, I mean litterally!  A magnet on the end of an old cat leash...yes, I said cat leash, haha!  Anyway, worked like a charm!

Thanks babe, you're my hero!
