Doctor, doctor...
We (actually Zane) has been battling a rash since he was about 3 mos old. It will sometimes go from his head down to his toes. The worst part is on his belly and back. I feel so bad for the little guy b/c he is itchy and doesn't know what to do. We have had many doctor's appointments with no successful treatments so I decided to self refer him to a Dermatologist. I mean, they are the skin specialists right?! Just so happens that the only Pediatric Dermatologist that our insurance company has is awesome! She is so attentive to Zane and listens to me (where the other docs really didn't) and she really, genuinely wants to help make him better! We had our 2nd appointment with her yesterday and she is starting to conclude that it is indeed baby Eczema. I really was hoping it wasn't because that can be a chronic problem for him, but there is a chance he will grow out of it, we will just have to play the waiting game. The doc gave us a prescription for an antihistamine and a new cream and shampoo for him. The cream has to be specially made for him, so we won't have that until this weekend. He already slept a lot better last night with just the antihistamine and shampoo, can't wait to see what the cream does! IF this cream does not work (it will be the 4th or 5th one that we've tried) she will have to biopsy his skin, which I DO NOT look forward to, she is a little concerned as to why he hasn't responded to any treatments we've tried. So, I'm crossing my fingers that this new treatment works for the little guy. Anyway, it was a good visit all in all and worth the drive to Capital Hill in traffic. I am confident that this newest treatment will be "the one" to work for us for now. The one nice thing is that Zane has remained a happy boy through all of this...he is still my little ham!!

Babies Everywhere!
Zane and I went to a friend's baby shower yesterday and surprise, the guest of honor had her baby a month early, so he joined in his own shower! We also got to see another friend's baby for the first time (and she'll be a year next month). I guess you can conclude we don't see these friends all that often, but it was fun to have the babies pose for a picture.

Beat the Bridge 2008
Zane and I walked in the 4 mile Beat the Bridge family fun walk today! Josh was supposed to join us, but since he's out of commission, my friend Jen joined us today. It was a BEAUTIFUL day for the walk. It took just just over an hour, not bad considering when I ran the raced 2 years ago it took me longer than that!!!

Zane Loves to Laugh!
Zane's friend Tate got home just as we were about to leave our play-date with the Hall's today. We attempted to get a picture of all three kids and realized that was too much to ask for! Instead Tate gave a "funny-face show" to Zane that just made Zane crack up laughing! I think this was better than a picture!
Playdate with the Hall's!
Zane and I went over to my good friend Brenda's today to have a play date with her daughter Kennedi! Zane had a blast...it is so much more fun now that the can sit up and play with toys and has expressions! Of course getting a good picture of the both of them smiling at the same time was near impossible, but it was fun trying! Kennedi was nice enough to let Zane borrow her cool pink highchair for lunch and snacks too! Kennedi's older brother Tate wasn't there this time, but the kids still had fun.

Update on Josh...
Well, we went to Josh's Ortho appt today regarding his fractured ankle and we didn't receive the news I was hoping for. I was hoping, the doc would say "after looking at your X-ray's again, it looks like its actually just a really bad sprain!" Nope...instead he said "well, you did damage, A LOT of damage"! Josh broke off some part of his bone in his ankle joint area. Sorry, I do not know the technical terms at this time. He is looking at a minimum of 6 weeks in a hard cast, non-weight bearing, 4 weeks in a walking boot and then we will see from there. Worst case scenario he will be faced with chronic ankle problems and surgery in the near future. He has a cat scan next week and after we get those results we will know more. I am really hoping for no surgery, but we need to do what is best for him and his ankle at this point. Josh can't work for the next 6 weeks for sure, since he doesn't have a "desk-job" and the 4 weeks in the walking boot (assuming no surgery is needed) will be light duty. That is our update for now. His cat-scan is next Wednesday and his appt to go over those results will be next Friday...I'll know more then (I hope). On a happy note, Josh is in great spirits and is mastering the crutches pretty well. I am sure he will be developing a serious case of cabin fever over the next few weeks, so I will have to make sure and get him out in the evenings and weekends! I love him to death and am so happy he is ok...but I wish we didn't have to go through this at all. Through sickness and in health!!!

Happy 1st Mother's Day to me!
I had visions I'd wake up to breakfast in bed, flowers on the table, a walk in the park or something of that nature for my 1st Mother's Day. Well, instead I had the opportunity to hang out in the Group Health ER this morning with my husband and son! Josh decided to fracture his ankle mountain biking yesterday! He came home with a "cankle" like none other (and I thought I had "cankles" when I was pregnant)!! So after we all got up this morning and took another look at it...Dr. Lisa Alexander (that's me) decided that this was a little more than a sprain that could wait until Monday. We headed over to the hospital and had the man X-rayed and sure enough, he has a fracture (I should really go to medical school)! This put a little damper into my day, but more of a damper into Josh's! He is on crutches and just has it wrapped right now, they need to wait for the swelling to go down before doing anything else. He has an appointment with Orthopedic this week and they will cast it or as the doc today said "figure out something to do with it"! My poor "grown" baby!
Both my "babies" waiting patiently.

Zane waiting for his daddy to be X-rayed.

Zane and I waiting for the doctor's verdict.

Finally home (notice the bag of frozen peas for our ice pack)!

Happy Cinco de Mayo (a day late)
On our way home from work last night we made an impromptu decision to go to a Mexican restaurant for dinner. Normally (pre-baby) this would've been a fine decision...but now that we have a little one usually these things need to be planned/thought out. Reason being...I didn't have the diaper bag with us, no food, no bottle, nothing. Zane is fine sitting in a highchair, but only if he has something to munch on...not very content just sitting and watching everyone else eat. I found the only thing there that I thought he could suck/munch on w/o choking...a lime!! He seemed to like it...always went back for more! I thought his little face was adorable, so I video'd it of course!
Enjoy!
As you can see, he also wanted a taste of daddy's cerveza, but we had to draw the line there...his juice of choice tonight had to be lime juice!

Oh how he's changed!
New toys for Zane
Our infant car seat can only carry a baby up to 22 lbs and since Zane is only a few ounces away from that...he is now in his big boy car seat as of today! Its a bittersweet moment for me. I'm sad that my baby isn't small anymore, its more of an inconvenience since I can't just take his sleeping self into the store, but at the same time, I'm happy he's growing good and healthy. He really seems to like it because it sits up higher so he can see out more. It also looks pretty comfortable to me!!

We also invested in a smaller stroller for Zane! Our stroller that went with his infant seat is a great stroller, but its so big. Its one of those 3 wheel jogger strollers...almost impossible to push around stores at the mall (too wide). Its also really big when folded up, so if we have it in the trunk, nothing else can fit back there with it. Anyway, we bought a smaller stroller from the same company and we really like it!

6 Months Old!
The Big Z is officially 6 months old and so much fun! He is so alert and happy! I can't get over how much he has changed in 6 months. I know the next 6 mos will have many changes too and we look forward to all of them. So far he is eating baby food like crazy, we haven't found one he doesn't like...except rice cereal...hates that stuff (and I can't blame him)! He is starting to roll over and can sit up for a few seconds un-assisted...then topples over!! He is laughing and giggling and always full of smiles. He has started taking a pacifier which has been bittersweet! We love him so much and are so happy he's ours!
Zane's 6 month stats are:
21 lbs 2 oz (95%)
27 & 3/4 inches tall (89%)
Here are a few pictures from his 6 month photo shoot courtesy of his "uncle" Joe!
