Build a Lego House

Last Sunday Josh woke up with some out of the blue stomach bug - so hoping to keep the boys well (haha, nice try) - I decided to take them and hightail it away from the house for the day!  We headed to my mom's to hang out.  She had bought Zane a new Lego set and it was the perfect day for them to put this bad boy together.   While she and Zane worked on that, Landon and I took my grandma to do a little shopping and hang out for a bit!

 After 4 hours they had finished their masterpiece - it was a beautiful house with so many great details...then this happened...Zane was carrying it from the car to the house and somehow he dropped it - Oh My Word - Legos everywhere on the front porch.

 After a little meltdown from him {and me}, Josh and I were able to get this bad boy all put back together!  Isn't she beautiful?!

Eleven

So this is what happens after you've been married for 11 years...you take your kids to dinner with you and take cute pictures of them with your husband, but don't get one picture of you with your husband...

I wouldn't have it any other way :)

Josh and I made an agreement when we first got married that we would always celebrate our anniversary somehow, but wouldn't buy gifts for each other except for the "big" ones (5, 10, 15, 20 etc) - we have held true to that!  Except this year!  I decided I would surprise him by buying him some cologne since he recently mentioned he didn't have any and I like to pick out what he smells like!  I was expecting it to be a big surprise to him - but as usual, he has to one-up me!  After I surprised him with his cologne (which he liked by the way - so hard to pick something like that out for someone - even my husband) - he totally surprised me...he bought me an iPad!!  Pretty sure the boys have used it way more than I have so far - but I am still pretty stoked!  Thanks babe!!

Also, thank you Josh for the last 11 years - they have not always been easy, but they have always been worth it!  There is no one else in life I'd rather ride this roller coaster with - buckle up and hold on tight because our ride has just begun baby!  I love you.

Will.is.1

My friend from college Brooke has an adorable little boy who turned one last week and the boys and I were lucky enough to be invited to his Circus party down on the beach!  I do not get to Alki enough - so this was a great excuse to drive down there!  The weather was gorgeous, Will was adorable and I was able to hang out with a few friends that I don't get to see nearly enough!

My good friend Anna and her beautiful baby bump!  Her due date is the exact same as Zane's was (10/25), but she is actually hoping for a Halloween baby like Zane - I think that would be pretty cool myself!

Job Site & Diabetes

Zane had a great opportunity today!!  He comes to work with me every morning for about an hour before going to school.  This morning my manager told him that her boys (who he is good friends with) were going with her husband (their dad obviously) to their property to watch the cement trucks pour the foundation for their new house they are building.  She then asked him (and me) if he wanted to go with them.  He of course jumped up and down saying "yes, yes" - I was a little reluctant since neither her or I would be going with them and her husband was/is not trained at all on how to deal with his Diabetes.  Reluctant or not, I wasn't going to let him miss out on something this cool just because he was chosen to have Diabetes!  I've said all along that I will never let that stop him from doing anything!  My manager was certain that her husband could handle it and that they would only be gone 1-2 hours.

I checked Zane's blood sugar before he left and it was a perfect #!  I told Zane that HE was in charge of his Diabetes while he was away; that no one else knew what to do - he assured me he could do it.  I told him if Dex went off (his continuous glucose monitor) saying that he was HIGH that he could just clear it and let me know when he returned, but if Dex went off saying he was LOW that he needed to drink a juice out of his bag right away, then he could check his blood sugar.  I also informed Ben that if Zane came to him asking for a juice that he needed to get him one out of his bag immediately!

Zane came back a couple hours later grinning frome ear to ear; he couldn't wait to tell me all about what he saw and did!  On the drive to school he told me all about the pump truck, the cranes and meeting Mack one of the construction workers!  I asked him if Dex went off at all and he said "nope, didn't have to check at all" - yay!  He then said this to me (and I quote) "they did have donuts there and offered one to all of us, I told the guy that I would skip it unless he knew how many carbs were in it" - be still my heart.  How is it that my baby is this grown up and responsible??  I asked him if Logan & Blake had a donut and he said "yeah, they did"...not only was he responsible enough to not eat one because he knew he needed insulin for it, but he then sat there and watched his two buddies eat one right in front of him (which is TOTALLY fine, I do not think they should've not had one on his account - just makes it a bigger deal to me that Zane refused one, but watched his friends enjoy one)!  I wanted to cry when Zane told me all of this - I immediately praised him and told him that he did everything perfect and that I was so proud of how responsible he was.  I wanted to cry because of that - because I was so proud of him and to cry because at that moment, I really hated Diabetes - really hated that it made my baby "different".

Anyway, this post was not meant to be about Zane and how awesome he is with his Diabetes when mommy & daddy aren't around - it was to show how cool it was that he got to do this today - got to go to the job site!

A Mini Wild Waves

I took this past Tuesday off work as a "re-coup" day after camping - after doing a bazillion loads of laundry and much unpacking it was time to have some fun...and time to leave the house quiet so daddy could get a few hours of sleep in before going to work that night!  We have driven by the Henry Moses Aquatic Center many, many, many times, but have never gone - so decided that Tuesday was the day to change that!  The boys and I packed up a picnic lunch and our swim suits and headed off.

Zane has been to Wild Waves once and liked it for the most part, but it was really "big" for him and there was a lot he couldn't/didn't want to do.  This was so much more friendlier to kids who can't swim well and to little kids.  After leaving, Zane told me that he always wanted to come here and never to Wild Waves again, haha!  We'll see if that's still the case once he is more comfortable in the water!  Landon on the other hand as I've said before has zero fear when it comes to water - which is good and bad.  I think he'd take Wild Waves by storm if we ever took him there!

Zane was about 1 inch too short for the two water slides Henry Moses has, but next year for sure he'll be able to ride and he's already looking forward to that.  Both boys had a great time in water, riding the lazy river, playing in the wave pool and jumping into the big pool - I don't think either of them missed out on anything by not being able to ride the two slides!

Ahhhh Summer, how we love you!!!

Camping

Last weekend we headed up to Winthrop and camped at Lake Pearrygin State Park with some great friends!  This weekend was a perfect example that there is a silver lining to every dark cloud.  We would have never met this wonderful family had it not been for Zane's Type 1 diagnosis.  I stumbled upon Kristin's blog sometime near the beginning of our Type 1 journey and was able to get into touch with her and we seemed to "click" from the start.  Our boys are about 10 months apart and thankfully they too get a long great!  Both boys are on the same pump and same CGM (continuous glucose monitor) so we Kristin and I have many a conversations about these two life-lines; its awesome to be able to bounce stuff off of someone who knows EXACTLY what I'm talking about!

We met up at our campsite Saturday afternoon and camped until Monday where we departed ways after breakfast!  We had a great time and I'm happy to report that we all still like each other!  That's a lot to say after "roughing" it with another family that you haven't spent more than a couple hours with before!  I believe that we all bonded really well and became even better friends and have already talked about more trips we'd like to do together!

When I posted the picture of Josh's car on FB before we took off; many people commented on how much over packing we did etc...do any of you know how much room 3 kayaks take up??  Yes, I might over pack a little...but honestly; these were all necessities for a successful fun camping trip!!!

I wish I could say they slept most of the way...but nope, they fell asleep promptly 15 mins before arriving at our site!

Definitely a "had to be there" moment, but hilarious!  Kirsten was SO embarrassed when she saw Erik walk over with a chocolate covered banana - I thought she was going to disown him right then and there!!!

As most people know, I LOVE taking pictures and am really trying to learn my camera better, so I was thrilled when my good friend Brenda asked if I'd take some family photos for her!  I love this little family and had a blast playing around with them a few weeks ago.  It doesn't hurt that they are all crazy photogenic too!
