Playground Fun - Surprise Sunshine

If I'm remembering correctly the forecast for this weekend's weather was rain, rain and a little more rain.  Yesterday that forecast was proven right over and over.  We headed to a birthday party about 30 mins from our house and it poured the entire way there and the entire way home...when we got home, we had snow all over the ground!  I guess its a blessing and a curse to live near a mountain pass :)  Zane thought the snow was the coolest thing...I just wanted a sign that spring would actually make a permanent appearance!

Today it has been gorgeous!  Still chilly, definitely cloudy, but so far no rain and a pretty good dose of sunshine - I'll take it!

Zane and I headed over to his new elementary school's playground today to check it out...he's pretty excited to have recess now!

I have decided to take the plunge and try to start running again - its been a loooong time.  But I'm finally living in a neighborhood that feels safe and has sidewalks everywhere...I really don't have an excuse not to.  Yesterday morning I took the boys out - Zane road his bike and I attempted to jog while pushing Landon in the stroller.  To say I am out of shape is a major understatement, but baby steps right?!  Anyway, on our way home from the playground today, Zane asked if I wanted to run home with him and I told him that I don't enjoy running in jeans, but would definitely run with him next time.  He asked if he could run home and I said "of course" thinking he'd go 1/2 a block and stop to walk...nope, kid ran all of the way home.  Its not that far, but I was so impressed.  He said he'd like to go running with me sometime - I'm sure he'll smoke me, but I'd love the company!

Strawberry Milk Makes Everything Better

Today was the day we had to put Zane's new CGM sensor on - this is something he HATES with a passion.  Its always a battle and always a war between him and us.  Normally Josh does this task (I normally do the pump changes), but I've been trying to learn how to do them so I can if I ever need to when Josh isn't around.  The last one I did, it took two sensors before I got it right and many tears from Zane.  That was two weeks ago.  Today, it was time to change it again - Josh is home, but I wanted to try again.  Zane of course threw a fit.  I finally demanded talked him into putting the new sensor on his back to give his poor little arms a break.  As soon as I inserted the sensor he started SCREAMING bloody murder...more screaming, than the normal "I don't want to put it on" scream.  He kept screaming "that's a bad spot, that's a bad spot, owwwww".  I looked at the sensor and it was just oozing blood :(  Not normal.  BROKE MY HEART.  So, I had to remove that sensor with tears in my own eyes and now try to coax him into letting us do it again (but going back to his arm).  He was not having it...and honestly, I didn't blame him.  Thankfully Josh came to my Zane's rescue and he was able to get it onto his little arm with no blood this time!

I normally take the "yes, I know it sucks, but too bad, you have to do it" approach to Zane's diabetes - I don't let him feel sorry for himself, I try not to feel sorry for him and I just try to teach him to "suck it up" and get the job done.  That was not the case today - I have never been so upset with myself for hurting him.  It wasn't on purpose of course and I apologized profusely, but it just broke my heart.  I begged him to forgive me and of course he did, but I hate hurting my baby.

Anyway...we gave him a big glass of Strawberry Milk afterwards and all is well - he isn't complaining about it all anymore, has basically forgotten about it and we will continue to have a great day - but not the way I wanted to start out this great day.

I love you baby.

Rain Don't Scare Us!

If anyone knows Landon they know he's obsessed with firetrucks, or any emergency vehicle for that matter!  Josh heard about a Firetruck Show in Issaquah, so we planned on heading out.  Well, as luck would have it...the weather didn't cooperate and it was a torrential downpour!  It didn't scare us, we grabbed our umbrellas and headed to the show.  Well...seems as if the firetrucks are scared of the rain...only 2 trucks showed up :(  Oh well, the boys didn't know any different and they had a great time checking out those two!
There were also a few Army vehicles out!

Big Boy Bed

I had no intentions in transitioning Landon from his crib to his toddler bed anytime soon.  I actually specifically told Josh when we were still in the old house that when he set up the beds in the new house if I wasn't there to NOT turn Landon's bed into a toddler one.  Landon has yet to ever climb out of his crib, so I didn't see the need to transition him...and I kind of liked the idea of him being contained!  But my biggest reservation was that I wasn't ready for him to grow up, I didn't want him to not be a baby anymore and to officially be a toddler.

As Josh was putting Landon's crib together at the house, he realizeed that the one side broke in the move.  It was salvagable, he could've jimmy-rigged it to get it on...but I told him to go ahead and putt he toddler side on.  I knew it would be easier and less work for Josh, but I won't lie...I was concerned on how Landon would do.  Not only would he be in a new house and a new bedroom that night, but now a new-ish bed.  I was prepared for the worse.  Zane transitioned to his toddler bed with no issues at all, so naturally I figured I'd have a ton of issues with Landon since this are 100% opposite in almost everything!  I really hate being wrong...but in this case, I was so glad I was wrong!  Landon has done WONDERFUL!  He has given us no problem at all, he has slept perfectly all night and each nap ever since we made the change!

Ahhh...my big boy (but always still my baby).

New Schools!

Yesterday was a big day for Zane.  He and I had a meeting with the school nurse who will be taking care of him at his new Elementary school starting next fall to go over the beginnings of his needs.  I was very nervous for this meeting.  There were so many things that I really wanted to fight for for Zane to have in his care-plan and I am not always good at fighting "nicely".  I was worried about how to nicely demand ask for these things, but I knew as his mom, it was my job to make sure his needs were met.  Turns out...I didn't need to fight for anything!  She had already thougt of everything and it was already written down in her mock-up care-plan for him!  There were only a few little tweaks that needed to be made and those were just due to the specifics of his insulin pump compared to other pumps other kids at the school are on.  Of course I will be nervous once he starts in the fall and plan on making an appearance at the school quite a bit at the beginning of the year, but I am definitely feeling more at ease than I was before.  Zane is SO excited to start Kindergarten and I am so excited for him!

Yesterday afternoon Zane started his new preschool; Newcastle Montessori School House.  He will be attending every afternoon.  My manager's boys both attend the school, so he already knew two kids going in - which is always a plus!  I took yesterday off, so I could attend with him for the afternoon and train his new teachers on his Diabetes (who thankfully were very willing to learn).  I could tell he was nervous and a lot more shy than usual...but he said he had a great time and was excited to go back today - so I guess that's a good sign!  Hopefully he has a lot of good things to report to me when I pick him up tonight!!

Parks

We have only been in our new house for a couple days, but already couldn't be happier with our location!  We are surrounded by trails and parks and we have so much discovering ahead of us!  Zane LOVES riding his bike all over town!  Here are a couple (not so good cellphone) pictures from a couple of the parks we've discovered so far (all within walking/riding bikes distance).

Could we have been blessed with better weather the last couple of days??!!

Love the spontaeous hug by Landon when I try to take a picture of the boys.  Melts a mama's heart!

Easter 2013

Our last day in our "old" house happened to be Easter Sunday!  It was a VERY low key Easter since my priority (aside from celebrating Jesus' resurection) was packing!

The boys woke up to fun-filled baskets and enjoyed their low-key Easter hoping around the house like bunnies!

Love filling their baskets!

Give me chocolate!!

Cutest little bunnies around (even if one is ignoring the camera)!

We did stop by my mom's quick on our way to taking a load out to the "new" house - so I had an excuse to get the boys in their Easter outfits...but had to switch up their bottoms since it was almost 70 degrees!!
