Children's Follow-Up

Zane had his regular 3 month follow up at Children's last Tuesday.  Since this was also his "yearly" visit, we had to see the entire team...Endocrinoligist, Nutritionist and Social Worker.  We weren't able to get all 3 in one day, so had to go back Thursday to see the Social Worker.  What a week!  I think we should've had our own private front row parking spot for how much I felt we were there!

Zane's A1c was up a bit to 7.8 - I was frustrated with that, but the doctor wasn't concerned at all since its still within target (< 8).  I am working my buns off to make sure its a better number next time though...we have until June 4th!  I hate this number...its a direct reflection on how I have been doing taking care of his diabetes and how I have trained others to take care of it when I'm not around.  Its a report card and when his # goes up at all, I feel like I failed.  Again, his doctor was not concerned at all, she made no changes to his plans - its a personal feeling I get.

Zane had lost 2 kilo's apparently - that didn't seem like much and really its not much - but any weight loss for him is not something they like to see at all.  They ran some blood tests for thyroid and Ciliac Disease and I'm happy to report that both came back normal!  I attribute his "weight loss" to the fact he had a stomach bug and pneumonia all within a month of each other AND he's growing like crazy...he's getting so tall - that has to be stretching out his weight I'm sure :)  Anyway, nothing to worry about, he is healthy as a horse (are horses really healthy?)!

Take that alarming pods...

Its been one hell of a diabetes afternoon for Zane.  The day was going totally fine until he was outside playing at school and his pump started to alarm and stop delivering insulin for no good reason.  School called me right way, thankfully I was just starting to head there from work (at least a 40 min drive).  I got there as fast as I can...but still that was 40-50 mins with no insulin.  I told school to have him play outside and run as much as possible to keep the blood sugars down.  It worked...when I got there, he was only at 167.  I started to fill the first new pod with insulin (100 units of insulin) and as I was filling it...it started to alarm...are you flippin' kidding me??  I pull out the 2nd spare pod that I had with me and the same exact same thing happened...started to freakin' alarm while filling it (another 100 units of insulin wasted).  I was out of pods.  We jumped into the car and I drove home as fast as I could (another 15 mins without insulin).  His blood sugar was now almost at 300; ugh.  Filled the 3rd pod and this one finally worked, but we've spent the last 3 hours trying to get his blood sugar back down into a normal range.  He feels like crap, but has been a trooper as usual.  A trooper that no child should have to be.

The normal trick to get the alarming pods to stop alarming is to stick them in the freezer...usually works.  Not tonight.  After almost 3 hours in the freezer they were still going strong and annoying the crap out of both of us.  Every time I'd open the refrigerator or the freezer, we'd hear them and Zane would freak out thinking it was his current pod alarming.  Enough was enough.  I let Zane handle it from there...

We are so lucky to have awesome friends who have awesome things...like a big box truck!  The husband of a good friend I work with has his own plumbing business and with that he has a big box truck that they were kind enough to lend to us!  We aren't able to move into our new house until next week, but have been packing like crazy and running out of room to put these boxes.  Also, we have a storage unit that we have been paying for since we had news of Mr. Landon entering our lives and needed our extra room for him!  We didn't want to pay for this storage unit one more month, so...we loaded up the truck!  Josh closed out the storage unit Saturday morning and then drove the beast to our house where we loaded up all of the packed boxes that were taking over our house.  We don't feel safe leaving the packed truck at our house for the week, so these great friends of ours are letting us keep our packed truck at their house until our big move next week!  We will be renting a Uhaul to gather the rest of our crap treasures and probably a few loads in our cars as well.

Speaking of crap treasures...how the he** do 4 people accumulate so much crap...sorry, its mostly crap!!  When I think about what we acutally NEED in life its amazing to what our minds trick us into thinking we need to survive!!  I have been dumping stuff to Goodwill and anyone else who will take it left and right the past month and still feel like I haven't made a dent!  I look at our kids toys and holy cow...seriously - I can count on ONE hand which ones they actually play with regularily...the rest can be tossed right??  Nope...of course not!!  Zane has been very good about helping decide which toys we can get rid of though, so we have made a little dent in his and Landon's toy collections - but good grief its never ending!!  I'm thankful we have the means to spoil ourselves and our boys some, but when I have to pack it all up...I'm a little less thankful!

Onto a new beginning and a new life - can't wait!!

Easter Egg Hunt

Our church had an Easter egg hunt for the kids this evening - the boys had a great time.  Landon was really into it this year - so much fun to watch.  The only bummer is that while we were all inside the church eating a yummy cookie and getting instructions on where to go for each age group some little punks decided to pilfer through all of the "little kids'" eggs that were on the front lawn of the church.  From the time we walked into the church to the time we went out for the hunt was maybe 10-15 mins and every single egg was opened and the treats were gone.  The blessing is that it was the "little kids" area, so kids like Landon's age didn't have a clue that anything was even supposed to be in the eggs; they just had fun grabbing the eggs and putting them in their baskets.  The bigger kids (where Zane went hunting) had better success with treats inside their eggs!  The big kids were nice enough to share their eggs with the little kids, but honestly they all just had fun hunting for the eggs!

Little Gym Birthday

We headed out to the Little Gym in Puyallup today for little Vivienne's 2nd birthday!  The boys were complete monkeys as expected!  We had a great time celebrating her big day!

St. Patty's Day Dash

I got up bright and early Sunday morning to run the St. Patty's Day Dash with my friend Karena.  We both ran this together one other time (pre-children) and I'm not sure I have ran since then.  I really should learn to not agree to running "races" after having a couple of beers!!  Although, in the end, I am glad that I said yes.  We had a great time!  I didn't die, like I was expecting I would and I did better than I thought I would.  To say I am out of shape though is an mass understatement, but at least it gives me some motivation to try and change that!

In the end, I had a great time hanging out with such a good friend and can't wait to do it again next year!
